American Eagle Outfitters
Sales Associate
As a Sales Associate at American Eagle Outfitters, I have been able to contribute to both the customer experience and sales initiatives that the store makes available. Specifically, my role involves interacting with customers, understanding what they want, and providing them with the best possible customer experience that the brand and product line offers.
Working in this fast-paced retail environment, I have had the opportunity to work and interact with numerous customers. Through these interactions, I have gained a more thorough understanding of consumer behaviour and purchasing decisions. I also observed how different marketing strategies affected the sales that the store turned in.
Additionally, I have contributed to maintaining the store’s presentation by assisting with merchandising efforts. This allowed me to gain a better understanding of how retail marketing and store presentation contribute to creating the desired brand experience.
Overall, working at American Eagle Outfitters has allowed me to use many of the marketing concepts and theories I learned during my schooling. More importantly, it has allowed me to further develop my interest in pursuing a career in the marketing field, particularly in specializations such as digital and social media marketing, brand management, and sales and marketing strategy.
Envision Fundraising
Sales Representative
As a Sales Representative at Envision Fundraising, I spent most of my days interacting directly with members of the public to promote the causes and campaigns of nonprofit organizations and soliciting recurring donations from these members of the public.
In my daily job, I had interactions with more than 50 individuals a day. This gave me an in-depth understanding of the psychology of consumers and how to best engage them. I learned about the different techniques used to persuade people and how to use these to obtain the desired response from individuals. This gave me a solid understanding of how to engage an audience effectively.
Furthermore, the nature of this job also gave me increased levels of confidence in my abilities. Much of this came from understanding how marketing would play out in specific areas such as brand representation, promoting specific campaigns, and building relationships with potential donors. This gave me an appreciation for the different ways in which marketing strategies could be developed and refined to achieve the best possible results.
Beyond this, I also gained increased levels of confidence in my communication, teamwork, and time management skills. Most importantly, though, I learned the importance of maintaining a consistent and professional brand in my interactions with customers. This experience allowed me to gain a solid understanding of the various factors involved in creating successful marketing and fundraising campaigns, and how to best execute the strategies within the organization to achieve the best possible results.
Pedalheads
Camp Instructor
As a Camp Instructor at Pedalheads, I was responsible for organizing and leading various camp activities while ensuring that each camper was safely engaged in an enjoyable and educational experience. These responsibilities required that I had strong leadership skills, as well as the ability to organize activities and communicate with campers and their parents.
Through my work at Pedalheads, I was able to gain an understanding of concepts like audience engagement and experience-based communication. My role in the camp required that I ensured that I was able to effectively communicate with all of the campers, and that I was able to create positive experiences for each camper that would allow me to connect with them in my role as an instructor.
In addition to audience engagement, I also developed skills in areas like teamwork and customer service. My ability to ensure that each camper had a great day at the camp contributed to my understanding of concepts like customer experience and how good customer service can lead to positive perceptions of a company. Additionally, my role as a camp instructor also allowed me to become more confident in my ability to lead others and organize activities in a way that was both structured and engaging for the campers.
My experiences at Pedalheads has helped me to gain an understanding of concepts like experiential marketing and service-based brands. My role at the camp allowed me to interact with customers (the campers) and ensure that they had the best possible experience, which is a crucial part of marketing and branding activities. Finally, my time at Pedalheads has helped me to develop my skills in general, as well as my interest in pursuing careers that relate to marketing and branding.
Shoppers Drug Mart
Co-op Student Merchandiser
As a Co-op Student Merchandiser at Shoppers Drug Mart, I assisted with daily store operations, including merchandising and in-store displays. My role required me to ensure that the products in the store were presented in an organized way that allowed customers to easily browse the store and enhanced the store’s performance.
Through my position, I gained insight into how visual merchandising and retail marketing strategies can influence consumer behaviour and purchasing decisions. As I was in charge of ensuring that the products in the store were陈列ed in an appealing way, I was able to observe how different merchandising decisions had an impact upon sales and customer interactions with the store.
Additionally, I was able to develop skills in areas like teamwork, time management, and detail-oriented tasks through my work in Shoppers Drug Mart. Furthermore, my observations of customers in the store allowed me gain an understanding of the relationship between operational execution and successful marketing strategy implementation at the point of purchase.
Overall, my experience in this role allowed me to gain an understanding of how the frontline retail employees contribute to the brand experience and marketing efforts of a company. Therefore, my time at Shoppers Drug Mart allowed me to gain an overview of the operations of a retail marketing company, and to understand how my skills and interests relate to the field of marketing.
